Today’s article is a guest post from Electric Bloom who offer a range of unique fitness holidays.

—–

In a world where there seems to be a new exercise DVD, bootcamp or personal trainer promising fantastic results around every corner, it can be difficult to figure out which options are going to have the best results for you and your own weight loss goals. It’s clear that the same things don’t work for everybody, but one thing is true; you are far more likely to stick to something that you actually enjoy, or at least, don’t completely despise, so it’s a good idea to make your exercise routine fun.

Make It Social

A fitness or dance class with friends can be a great way to fit some exercise into your week while making it fun too. By sharing your weight loss or fitness goals with a friend, you’ll provide motivation and support for one another, which is a huge help. Also, you’ll find it much more difficult to back out of going to a class if you know that your friend is expecting you to go with them.

Try Something New

Many classes often require people to pay for a number of sessions in advance, which can be off-putting to those who aren’t sure that they definitely want to commit to weekly Bikram yoga or circuit training. However, many gyms provide one-off taster sessions, allowing you to try a class for free or at a reduced price, so that you can decide whether it’s something you want to continue with. It’s also worth checking out sites such as Groupon and Living Social, which frequently offer deals on the classes and gyms in your local area. You may find that you absolutely love spinning class, but even if you don’t, it won’t be a huge waste of money if you’ve only paid a discounted rate anyway.

Zumba

One of the biggest crazes of recent years is Zumba, a latin-inspired dance class that has become one of the most successful fitness programs in the world. The popularity of this particular dance class stems from the combination of fun, easy to learn routines and upbeat Latin music. It also provides a work out that mixes cardio and resistance training, which is incredibly effective for weight loss and toning up. Since Zumba is so popular, you are very likely to find a class in your area and there is now a variety of different classes available, from the original Zumba Fitness dance class, to Aqua Zumba, which is a water-based workout.

A Workout With A Difference

If gyms and dance classes aren’t your thing, there are plenty of ways to work out at home, either by using a fitness DVD or your own home gym equipment. For a more modern home workout, many games consoles, such as Nintendo Wii and Xbox Kinect, have their own fitness games, which have become extremely popular. These consoles have an inbuilt motion sensor, which means that games like Wii Fit and Kinect Fitness can track a player’s movement to make sure that they are carrying out their exercises correctly. The games can also record data, showing a player’s individual progress in their weight loss, making the whole process fun and interesting.

Weight Loss Retreats

Losing weight on one’s own can be an uphill battle, especially without much support from those around you. Attending weight loss retreats or weight loss holidays could be the solution to kick-start your effort to make a lifestyle change. With the help of counselling and proper eating programmes, you are taught how to get rid of bad eating habits while detoxing and exercising at the same time. Some retreats use yoga and meditation to focus you on the task of changing your life.
<div

Today’s article is a guest post from Becky Harris who writes for U-Pack.

—–

Many people have scales but they tend to deny that they are gaining weight, even if the scale shows they are carrying an extra pound or two. The sad truth is that most overweight people deny that they are gaining weight until it is too late. The scale doesn’t lie and you need to accept your weight. Here are a few helpful tips and insights that will help you know if you are really overweight or not.

1. Gaining Muscle

Many people say they are gaining weight because they are gaining muscle. This can happen. When you vigorously workout, especially with weight training or any demanding physical activity, your body is prone to gaining muscle. Since the tissue is expanding, the scale will read it as extra weight.

But when is the last time you have lifted a dumbbell or done any physically demanding activity? If it was in the last few days then maybe the weight is muscle. If you haven’t lifted a single heavy thing in the last few months or years then you are gaining fat and not muscle mass.

2. Water Weight

The body has the tendency to hold water weight, especially for females. This is also true if you have not been drinking the proper amount of water up until now. The water tends to hold the extra water until it is sure that you will properly hydrate it. This can cause a few extra pounds, usually two to five, on the scale.

However, water weight fluctuates and it should quickly leave your body from proper hydration and exercise. Not only that but people only gain 10 to 20 pounds of water weight if they have certain diseases like heart or kidney disease. Don’t blame water weight if you are 10, 20, 30 or more pounds overweight.

3. Toe Touching

Many people are not as flexible as they should be and sometimes you will have to bend your knees to touch your toes. That is not the problem. When bending over, can you do so easily? Or, do you feel your stomach getting in the way? Your stomach should not impede your range of movement and this only occurs when people are overweight. If you have difficulty moving because your body is getting in the way then you are probably overweight.

4. Difficult Physical Activity

When you are overweight physical activity becomes much harder to do. You may not be able to run a mile, but that isn’t needed for this test. Just climb the stairs and see how you feel. Are you out of breath and lethargic after climbing? If so then you are probably overweight.

Carrying extra weight puts a lot of stress on your body. It is harder for blood to circulate through the body, your joints and muscles have to carry the stress of the extra weight and your lungs require more oxygen to make your body move. If normal physical activity is hard, then you are probably overweight.

5. Defensive About Food

When your friend or spouse says you are eating too much, what is your reaction? Feeling a little hurt or angry isn’t uncommon, especially if you are really enjoying the food. But if you lash out, start feeling very depressed or start feeling uncontrollably angry then you might have a problem.

Food addiction and being overweight tend to go hand-in-hand. The extra food raises serotonin levels which makes you feel good. However, you get addicted to the extra serotonin and it becomes difficult to live without it. If you are reacting very harshly about food then you are probably overweight and have a food addiction.

Conclusion

The scale doesn’t lie. Sometime you may just be gaining weight from water or muscle. However, don’t lie to yourself. If you haven’t lifted any weight in the last few months or years and you have a hard time moving around then you are most likely overweight.

However, there is hope. Once you finally admit that you are overweight and you stop lying about your condition, you can finally get the help you need. Talk to your loved ones, talk with your doctors and make a food and exercise regimen that can really benefit your life.

About the Author:<br

Today’s article is a guest post from Jennifer Gillan who works for A.Vogel.

—–

During winter, when we’re exposed to less sunlight, our serotonin levels are depleted. Serotonin is what is technically known as a neurotransmitter which in plain English means it helps messages pass down nerves to the muscles or organs they are meant for. Your internal communication network, when fired with plenty of serotonin, will be fully functional and your body will be a generally happier and more efficient place to hang out in. Lack of serotonin is associated with low mood, SAD syndrome and disturbed sleeping patterns. It can also, bizarre as it may sound, affect your weight.

Carbohydrate consumption can boost serotonin levels, so your body may crave more carbohydrates when serotonin levels are low. Your body is always trying to do the best it can for you. It knows that a stable nervous system is very important and if the way to achieve this desirable state of affairs is to prompt you to reach for stodgy snacks, then that is what it will do.

Getting worked up about this just makes the situation worse. When under stress we produce cortisol, a hormone that instructs us to eat and store carbohydrates. This is once more a survival technique on the part of the body. Stress was originally less likely to be caused by emotional angst and more likely to signify some life-threatening danger in which food might be hard to come by and energy desperately needed to power us out of harm’s way by taking to our heels or our fists. So stress hormones instruct us to access energy in its most swiftly available form – carbs.

Knowing that our predilection for pastries and pies, not to mention the more lavishly chocolate-smothered type of cake or biscuit, is triggered by a lack of ‘happy’ chemicals can help us to plan strategies of avoidance such as those listed below:

• Get out into the daylight whenever possible. A 10-minute trot around the block or the building in your lunch break is better than nothing. Ensure that weekends see you out and about, even if the weather is grey and uninviting.
• Try a lightbox if your symptoms are quite bad and daylight is particularly elusive.
• Exercise indoors if the outside world is frozen or drenched. Exercise lifts serotonin levels anyway, whether done in daylight or not.
• Fill up on complex carbohydrates such as dried fruit which contains heaps of useful nutrients as well as providing healthy energy and giving your bowel a fix of fibre. Snack on seeds (sunflower, pumpkin and sesame) for starches that also provide you with beneficial minerals.
• Think about herbs such as Helix for curbing carb cravings and maybe St John’s Wort for supporting your nervous system.
<div

Today’s article is a guest post from Clinic Compare.

—–

The Best ways to Lose Weight

Unfortunately there is no quick fix solution when it comes to losing weight. Even the cosmetic surgery route is not always an easy option. It can be painful and is almost always a relatively expensive option. The main surgical method used to remove body fat is liposuction. This is not a cheap option and can cost anywhere between £1500 and £5000, depending on where in the UK the treatment is carried out and on what part of the body. Cheaper surgery is available in countries such as Spain and Hungary, but of course there will be extra costs to factor in such as flights and accommodation. However, the good news is that the most effective and healthiest ways to shed the pounds are also the cheapest. Most doctors agree that the best way to lose weight is to increase exercise levels and decrease the amount of food taken into the body. If the amount of calories going into the body are less than the amount of calories being used or ‘burned’ by the body, then weight loss will occur.

Dieting to Lose Weight

When it comes to changing the diet in order to lose weight, the most effective ways are to eat less fat, sugar and processed foods. High fat foods contain more calories in a very small amount of that food than in the same weight of a lower fat food. For example there are 255 calories in a 50g bar of chocolate, but only 143 calories in a 150g banana. Many nutritionists now recommend that dieters eat 5 or 6 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 2 or 3 larger meals. This causes an increase in the metabolism and more effective fat burning. It also means that the dieter is less likely to become really hungry, which can lead to overeating.

A change in cooking habits is also vital. In order to lose weight and keep it off, it is a good idea to make changes that can be carried on for life. For example baking, poaching, grilling and steaming foods instead of frying them in oil. Also flavouring foods with vinegars, pepper and spices instead of butter or mayonnaise could be a simple way to cut back. Cooking food from scratch is probably one of the best ways to reduce fat and sugar intake, as it means the dieter can control exactly what is going into each meal. It is also cheaper than buying ready prepared meals.

Exercising to Lose Weight

While healthy eating is a very effective way to shed the pounds, weight loss can be increased by introducing some exercise. People that are not used to exercise should of course start off slowly and speak to their doctor if they are very overweight. It is not necessary to join a gym in order to take effective exercise. Walking is excellent exercise and is free. It is good for the heart and lungs and can reduce blood pressure if done regularly. Walking also boosts the metabolism and helps to reduce body fat. Walking can be carried out anywhere, on the streets or around a local park. It can also be incorporated into everyday life – for example getting off the bus a couple of stops early or parking the car a little further away from the shops than usual.

Many doctors also recommend swimming as an effective method of weight loss. Swimming is a very safe activity as it supports the body and joints and is less likely to lead to injury than other forms of exercise. Many council run swimming pools offer cheap sessions and adult only time slots.

In order to shed pounds, the vast majority of people will need to combine willpower with a few changes in lifestyle. However these changes are worth making and do not have to cost money. They can not only lead to the desired weight loss, but ultimately to better health and a longer life.

References:<br

You can get even more fitness tips from Becky by visiting her Twitter page FreshHealth11.

—–

Unless you are one of those lucky people with a high metabolism, then you understand the struggle involved in losing weight. It feels like you are constantly working to keep those extra pounds off and spend too much time stuck in your ‘fat clothes.’ However, there are a number of unusual weight loss tips, which could help you on your way to losing those extra pounds.

1. Eat More Spicy Food. Peppers are known to raise your metabolism, but spicy food also has another weight loss trick up its sleeve. When you eat spicy food you tend to eat slower and by eating slowly you will realise that you are full quicker and therefore will be able to stop before you overeat.

2. Eat Only What You Can Put Onto A Fork. With this trick you can only eat a small amount of food with each mouthful and your stomach will then be able to announce when it is full a great deal quicker, stopping your overeating habits. This trick also prevents the wasting of food and can help lower the cost of your weekly shop, as you will only eat what you need.

3. Cook With Turmeric. One of the components in turmeric is called curcumin and it is believed to be a potent fat burner. Researchers believe that it suppresses the growth of fat tissues. Tufts University in Boston recently did a study on rats and discovered that rats fed a high fat diet with curcumin gained less weight than the rats fed the same diet without curcumin.

4. Brush Your Teeth More Often. This is not only good for weight loss but your oral hygiene as well. People who brush their teeth after every meal are rarely obese, according to Japanese scientists. When you brush your teeth it actually slows your appetite and protects your teeth. You are also less likely to want to consume food after a thorough cleaning, so as to preserve that fresh, after-brushing feeling.

5. Chew Your Food. We all chew our food, but if you take the time to chew your food and count to 10-15 seconds it will help you lose weight. Chewing your food more makes you aware of when you are full faster so that you don’t overeat. The bonus is that you’re also helping your oral health and protecting yourself from gum disease. By chewing your food more you are ensuring that all the little bits are swallowed rather than stuck. Follow this one up with #4 and you should be losing weight with perfect teeth in no time!

Losing weight doesn’t have to be a struggle and by using these simple, but strange tips, you can lose that extra weight and keep it off.

About the Author:
moneysupermarket.com. He works in the insurance industry but specialises in life insurance, and can often be found either halfway up or halfway down a hill on a bike, panicking or sweating (depending on which way he’s going).

—–

I’m not that special to look at, really.

I’m a couple of stone (at least) overweight, I drive a slightly knackered 8 year old car with dodgy fuel consumption and an engine warning light illuminated and I live in a shared house with three friends.

I’m hardly Hugh Heffner, Johnny Depp or Richard Branson.

I am, however, in far better shape both financially and physically than I was six months ago, when I was probably eight stone overweight and lived in a house that was subsiding so badly that if you dropped a pen on the floor, it would roll away.

You see, over the last few months I’ve been on a diet, both financially and physically. It’s been hard work, I don’t mind admitting – but it’s been totally worth it.

So, what have I done to achieve this? Settle down and I’ll tell you.

First of all, I started eating properly. My old diet used to consist of sauces from jars, food from takeaways and microwaved things from plastic trays, none of which are fantastic for you. Now, I eat loads of fruit, loads of veg, lots of calcium and lots of fibre, whilst keeping my fat and my sugar intake right down – it’s the Slimming World diet and I wholeheartedly recommend you try it: It’s helped me lose 74lbs in less than 5 months.

I coupled that with hitting the exercise bike, and hard: I was racking up in excess of 40 miles a week at one point– and that made a huge difference to both my weight loss and also my general health. No more panting after climbing a flight of stairs for example – at one time taking my socks off was more effort than it should have been!

The social and personal benefits can’t go unmentioned either – I’m far more confident in myself now, even though I still sometimes surprise myself at spaces I can fit through! I’ve also got a new girlfriend who has been instrumental in making me feel better about myself, mainly by shouting at me every time I get a bit down on myself or call myself a mountain ogre (which I do often).

So, that’s 77 pounds of weight shifted, what have I done to save the pennies?

In honesty, my diet has proven to be a great way to save money on its own – instead of spending 2 or 3 pounds on a microwave meal you can buy enough fresh, raw ingredients to make 3 or 4 days worth of sauce to have with pasta or noodles, and supermarkets quite often do special offers on fruit that make getting your 5 a day a lot cheaper than you’d think.

Cutting down smoking and drinking can make a huge difference to your pocket as well – when you consider that a pint and 20 Marlboro can easily cost you in excess of £10 nowadays, the amount you could save by knocking that on the head is incredible. I’ve quit both, and to be honest I don’t miss them one bit.

I’m saving money on petrol now as well by walking or cycling places when I get the opportunity – short journeys are the ones that really hurt your car’s fuel consumption, so if I’m only going a mile or two then I go by feet or by pedal power.

The amount of little things you’d never think of are almost innumerable: I no longer have to buy from expensive “Big and Tall” shops or specially order outsize things online: I can shop in the same cheap fashion stores as everyone else.

Obviously, working for moneysupermarket.com I was very aware of the affect that my weight would have on life insurance as well – and I have also discovered while my old BMI would have meant that I would have struggled to get life insurance from anywhere but specialist high risk companies, my new BMI would mean that my premiums would not even be loaded now – at least not on account of my weight (The fact that I am a reasonably new ex-smoker would still affect the costs).

Even taking into account the fact that I pay to go to Slimming World, I estimate that I’m probably £200 a month better off – and when you consider that I won’t have to keep buying new clothes when I finish my diet, that number can only go up!

I’ve got to be honest; the impetus for me doing all this was my life largely falling apart around me and as such I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone – but if you can use the lessons I learned and apply them to your life believe me, you’ll soon be far better off, both financially and physically!
<div

By looking at the top movements that you can perform that will target these muscles, you can firm them up and see fast results.

Just keep in mind that in order to really remove your love handles entirely, you’re going to have to work on reducing your total body fat percentage.

This will be best done through a proper reduced calorie diet and a full body strength training program, which will rev your metabolic rate and keep it there for hours after the workout is finished.

Once both of those are in place, then you can add in the following moves to further tone and define that area.

Let’s look at the quick moves to rid love handles that you need to know about.

The Bicycle

The first great exercise to remove love handles is the bicycle. This one is great because not only will you work the obliques, which is where the love handles sit, but you’re also going to work the lower abs since the legs are raised above the floor and work the top abs as well as you crunch upwards.

Make sure when performing this that you really think of contracting from the sides of the stomach to see the best results possible.

Twisted Decline Sit-Ups

Moving along, the second exercise that you must make sure you’re doing is decline twisted sit-ups. Decline sit-ups are great for building six pack abs because you’re going to have to work against the forces of gravity.

By adding the twist in there though, you’ll help target the obliques to a larger extent, which are the precise muscles that you’re aiming to slim down.

When performing these try and lower all the way down to the back of the bench as that will ensure that you’re placing a high amount of tension on the target muscles during the movement.

The Side Plank

Next up we have the side plank. The side plank is a perfect core strengthening exercise that will help rid love handles and firm your abs.

When performing the side plank make sure that your body stays in perfect alignment because as soon as you notice one hip dropping, that’s your sign to come down and rest before carrying on.

This is one movement where form definitely cannot be sacrificed, so really do aim to make sure you maintain it at all times.

Rotating Leg Raises

Finally, last but not least, don’t overlook rotating leg raises. This is a variation on the straight leg raise in that rather than just raising up and down with the legs while on your back, you’re going to move them around in a circle like the hands on a clock. In doing so you’ll target the oblique muscles that much more and help bring out better overall definition.

Make sure to perform these in a smooth and controlled movement pattern for optimal results.

So there you have the main moves that you should include in your workout program to rid love handles. Were there any you were missing out on?

About the Author:
How To Lose Weight Fast.

—–

You have decided that you are going to lose weight, you have found a great training program and diet to follow, and you feel motivated and ready. So the first week goes fine and you follow your program.

Then the next week comes along, and you maybe start to miss a few of your exercise routines, and start to cheat on your diet. And then the third week comes, and you have lost all your motivation for training and eating right, and you go back to your old habits.
Maybe you lost your motivation because you got slow result, or you just felt that this training or diet isn’t for me, or for some other reason.

This right here is a very common scenario when people are trying to lose weight.

One of the key things to losing weight is motivation. Without the right motivation you can have the best training in the world and still fail because you will not follow through with your weight loss. You need to learn how to stay motivated even when it goes slow if you want to succeed and this can be achieved in 6 simple steps:
1. Create a vision of what you want to look like
2. Set goals
3. Get support
4. Make your training a routine
5. Find the right training/diet for you
6. Reward yourself

1. Create a vision of what you want to look like

You need to create a vision of yourself what you want to look like, so you know what you are working towards. You can draw a picture of the body you want, or you can go online and find a picture of someone with a great body that you want. And print it out and stick it somewhere where you can see it daily and think about it.

2. Set goals

You have probably heard this one before, but it’s also crucial to your motivation. You need to set some long term goals every few month or so, but make sure they are realistic. But the most important part of setting goals is setting small goals each week that you can achieve. Cause if you set a goal and you complete it you will feel great, and want to go on.

3. Get support

It’s hard to do this journey on your own, try to get friends and family to support you, and try to join forums and write and talk to people there in the same position as yourself.

4. Make your training a routine

What I mean by this is that you should be specific about when you train, you always want to train on the same days on the same time. And make sure you follow that time, because it will become a routine and it will be much easier to do it.

5. Find the right training/diet for you

There are a lot of programs out there and a lot of them are just rubbish. You need to find something that fits you, some people wants to go on a starvation diet and get it done fast (but that will not work most of the time) and some people want long term programs. Go on forums and find out more about programs that can fit for you.

6. Reward yourself

This is kind of connected to the goal part. Because when you complete a goal you want to reward yourself, and I don’t mean reward yourself with food or a day of training. I mean maybe go to a spa, get a massage or spend a day in bed watching movies.

Author Resource Box:<br

This surgery can be very effective in helping a person reach his or her weight loss goals, but unfortunately this does not come without a cost. The price paid may be more than the actual liposuction cost. No surgery comes without risk and there are many risks that are involved with liposuction. They include complications with the anesthesia, bleeding risks, and certain age groups such as teenagers and older adults are more prone to these complications.

Complications from the anesthesia are one of the risks that are involved with liposuction. There is no way that a physician is able to tell how a person’s body will react to anesthesia beforehand. Some people may have allergic reactions that can result in coma and even death. Another risk associated with liposuction is excessive bleeding. Sometimes the bleeding can be so severe that a person may need a blood transfusion. Additionally, certain age groups are more prone to complications than others. Teenagers are at a higher risks of complications because their bodies are still growing and developing. Elderly people are also at a higher risks because there bodies are weaker and they are usually not as vigor as younger people. For those reasons, teenagers and elderly people should always avoid liposuction.

With all those potentially serious risks a person may be asking two questions. Are the risks worth it, and can they be minimized? For the morbidly obese person, the abdominal liposuction cost, both in dollars and potential risks may be worth it. Being obese in itself has health risks, so it is really a case of a person deciding whether he or she is willing to lose his or her life to potentially save it. It also must be pointed out that severe complications during liposuction are rare, but they must be noted.

The risks can also be minimized. A person should always get a full check up before getting this procedure, which is required by many plastic surgeons. That is one of the best things that a person can do to minimize the risks of complications. A person can also opt for the laser liposuction procedure which is safer. Additionally, those who are teenagers should postpone the surgery until they are adults. The elderly should avoid this procedure completely and find an alternative way of losing weight.
<div
